The Battlefields of the Zulu Kingdom stretch across the plains from the northern Drakensberg mountains to Pietersburg and Volksrust in the north, to Zululand in the east. It is a land of great natural beauty that masks a turbulent past.
Isandlwana, Spioenkop, Rorke's Drift, and Blood River are famous battles that conjure vivid images. The Voortrekker-Zulu War (1836 to 1852), the Anglo- Zulu War of 1879, the two Anglo-Boer Wars (1881 and 1899) and the Bambatha Rebellion (1906) left their scars etched forever across the land. Today visitors from all over the world come to wander around the battle sites, gravestones, memorials and museums which tell stories of extraordinary courage and tragedy.
