COAST OF THE WHALES, ROUTE 62 & THE LITTLE KAROO

The area known as the Whale Coast, is an easy drive from Cape Town.  The popular town of Hermanus is known as the whale-watching capital of South Africa.  The whole of the southern Cape coast is prime territory for land-based whale watching.  Nearby is Arniston one of the best preserved fishing villages in the country and a little to the east the De Hoop Nature Reserve, an exciting wilderness of beach, dunes craggy coast and more whales.

Route 62 and the Little Karoo.  One of the most rewarding journeys in the Western Cape is the inland mountain route from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth referred to as Route 62.  This trip takes you through some of the most dramatic scenery in the country.
